It was dark…too dark. She couldn’t see a single thing around her. It was pitch black. She reached her arms out. They had barely moved three inches before they hit something. She began feeling around. Jesus Christ was she in a box! Her breathing began to accelerate to the point where she felt like she could breathe! She began to scream, pounding and kicking the walls of her prison.
“HEEEEEEELP! GET ME OUTTA HERE FOR GOD’S SAKE! HELP! HELP!” she screamed, her voice high pitched, terror dripping into every word.
She kept screaming, and her screams grew in volume as she felt the walls tighten around her. She was giving herself a headache, but she kept shrieking. Suddenly the walls collapsed on top of her.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” a shrill voice screamed.
A girl, no older than fourteen, bolted up right. The tarp she’d been using as a blanket slipped off of her as she shook looking around. It was still dark, the only lights were from the street lamp and some of the buildings. She looked around. She was surrounded by garbage bags and cans. The brick walls around her still had graffiti on them. She was still in her alley way. She breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat off her pale skin. She found the shattered mirror and looked at herself. Her face was pale and clammy in appearance. Her caramel colored eyes were still wide and the fear remained in her eyes. Her low, hoarse voice came in a whisper.
“It’s okay Melanie….you’re fine. He’s not stuffing you into the closet. You’re not dying so relax!” she hissed at herself.
She brushed her auburn hair out of her eyes and she paced around. She took a deep breath trying to get her self under control. She pressed herself against the dark red bricks and focused on her breathing.
“It was just a dream,” she whispered. “It was just a dream.”
The teenage girl looked around. She felt so little, and being only 4'10 meant she was smaller than a lot of kids her age. She was comforted by the sounds of the city, reminding her she was still alive. She looked down at her uniform. Her jumpsuit had a couple rips in it, but she could fix them. Her skirt was dirty and so were her gloves, but she really didn't care.
She wasn't paying much attention until she heard a scream. A little old lady with curly white hair was the victim of a purse snatching. How did Mockingbird know? She saw the thief. The girl charged out to help the little old lady. She jumped in front of the thief.
"All right, let go of the lady's purse," she said demandingly.
The crook took out a gun. Mockingbird's eyes widened and she thought, "Shit...he's gotta gun!"
She took out her stun gun and pointed it at him. The girl lunged at him and tried to snatch the purse. The thief pulled the trigger, the bullet barely missing her.
Mockingbird looked at her hand. She had the purse. She tossed it to the old lady and motioned for her to get away. The lady fled the scene.
The thief was joined by a few buddies as Mockingbird turned to face him. She hissed to herself, "Oh crap."

(Sorry for the short post. I hate starting up RPs, I'm so terribly BAD at it....)
A man, much taller than her, decided to step forward.
"So girly, you tryin' to be a hero? You ain't no Superman..."
The men started to surround her, pulling out knives and other weaponry; some of them contemplating what exactly to do with the young heroine. Yet as the first man lunged forwards, he was suddenly stricken by a blue bolt of lightning.
"Didn't your mom teach ya it was wrong to pick on a lady?"
It was the the voice of a young, arrogant, teenage boy. There stood two brunette twins; both of them were clad in jeans, goggles, and short sleeved, blue spandex tops. One of the boys slowly mouthed to Mockingbird to get up and run. The two seemed to have some skill with hand to hand combat. The one with the darker hair made a displeasured noise as he swiftly and almost elegantly tossed a theif over his right shoulder. Looking up, he sighed.
"Jolt. Could you shut up for five minutes and just get the kid out of here. The boss wants to see us and we have no time for your bad attempts at making catch phrases."
"Tch. Fine, MOM. Geez, Shock, you seriously need to take a chill pill sometimes. " the shorter of the twins frowned, swiftly dodging a stab from a nearby mugger.
"What is with all these STUPID KIDS?!" shouted one of them, who then lunged after Mockingbird. Jolt, the elder twin, left forward, trying to defend her; but unfortunately, he was tackled down by another theif who happened to be nearby.
"Ah! Kid! Get outta here!"

(No problem! You're the first one to reply anyway.)
The young girl rolled out of the way and got to her feet. She felt irritated. Kid? How old were they?! They had to be teenaged, same as her. Just because she was little didn't mean she couldn't handle herself. Mockingbird narrowed her caramel colored eyes behind her mask.
The first one made a move to tackle her, but she ducked between his legs. She turned around and kicked him before scrambling to her feet. The thief threw a punch at her, catching her in the shoulder. She stumbled a bit, but returned the punch. She looked at the twins, deciding to stay. She looked at one of the thieves. He was trying to roundhouse the taller twin.
Focusing, she was able to mimic his movements exactly and knocked the one guy down. She then wondered why she didn't do this earlier. She opened her mouth and mimicked the sound of an automatic weapon. The one thief jumped up and ran away from her.
The girl turned her attention to them. Despite her puny size, she was capable of fighting. It was just that fooling some of them was so much easier! She got into a fighting stance and prepared for her next attack.

Jolt looked up at Mockingbird, about to give her a thanks when he was sure that he heard a gun.
"OH SNAP! Girl, you're HOW old and you got a gun?!"
A few of the men were distracted by the noise, but the majority of the theives that weren't already unconscious had decided to stay. Looking up, Shockwave did his best to analyze Mockingbird's skills as he was fighting.
"I don't see a gun in her hand. Did the theives take it?"
Unfortunately, because he was distracted, he was kicked square in the jaw by a nearby man. His brother was immediately enraged, and shot a blue bolt of energy towards him. "Idiot!", Shockwave snapped "you might hit the girl!". Meanwhile, two men were trying to push Mockingbird into a corner, taunting and threatening her; they wouldn't likely stand a chance.

(Hope it's okay if I join in)
Crystal passed building after building, the city lights blinding her eyes. She always longed to live far away from this place, but she knew those longings weren't going to happen. Not until she was older, anyways. The business of the city never excited her. She wished to be somewhere where she'd be able to know everyone in the area. She'd never be able to do that in New York City.
She let out a deep, heavy sigh. Her head was held low. She'd been walking aimlessly now for a few forgettable hours. At times like this, she wanted to just go home. She hasn't slept in a bed for months now, the ground was her new bed. Home was not an option. She didn't have a home anymore.
She continued her walking, not really noticing that the lights and people were slowly vanishing from her sight. She probably should be paying much more attention to where she was walking, but she was too absorbed in her thoughts.
Crystal heard a gun shot from a distance that brought noise to the silent night. Just like that, her focus came back. In a rush, she quickly placed her backpack down. She didn't have to dig long to find her costume and mask. She hastily put her chain mesh bodysuit on, tightening her mask afterwards. She picked up her backpack, running towards the scene.
When she reached where the gun shot was heard, she registered what was going on, for the most part. She dashed behind the two men who were after Mockingbird as sharp, thick glass formed from both her right and left hands. She brought her hands towards the men's backs, the glass centimeters away from them.
"I suggest you leave this girl alone. I rather not get blood all over me. I'm already having a bad day, getting myself messy will just make it worse."

The remaining muggers ran away, dropping their weapons. Jolt looked up at Crystal, just as he had tossed an unconscious theif to the ground.
"Woah. Who brought the babe with themoves?" Kicking one of the last of the muggers in the alley, Jolt's brother looked up as well; a bruise was starting to form on his cheek from where he was kicked earlier.
"Jolt could you NOT hit on every heroine you see that's in your age range? And ma'am. We thank you for your assistance, though I assure you that my brother and I had everything handled as did the girl." Shockwave announced, keeping his composure. Though he would let no one hear him admit it, he was actually extremely shy around girls. He wanted to get out of there and simply continue with the mission The Light had given them and not have to socialize; his socializing skills were frankly...poor.
"Relax, bro. Jeez. So...", grinned Jolt as he ran a hand through his locks "My name's Jolt, I'm on Team Electroshock with my brother Shockwave. You ladies come here ofte-OOF!"
"Please excuse my idiot brother; we'll be leaving shortly. We have a mission to do."

Mockingbird smiled and made a chirping sound. It was a sound of contentment. She looked at Shockwave. The girl's hand flew out and she grabbed his arm.
"Wait! Why'd you help me then?"
Mockingbird was shocked. She'd never spoken to a stranger before. Never. It just wasn't her style. She let go of him and blushed furiously.
"I'm--I'm--gosh...I'm sorry...shouldn't have..." the girl mumbled.
She looked down at her feet embarressed as hell. She should not have done that! Bad Lanie! Bad Lanie! Her light brown eyes flickered up to him. For a second, she feared he'd utterly ignore her...or hit her.
Unconciously, she took a step away from him. The red blush was still on her face, her dark hair falling into her face.

Crystal watched Mockingbird's embarrassed response. It was in Crystal's nature to meet and greet. All this awkwardness would not do.
"Well, since at the moment we are all here, might as well introduce myself. You can call me Crystal. Oh, and about popping out of nowhere, sorry. I tend to show up spontaneously and over due my entrances."
She was curious about their mission, but she wasn't rude. She wouldn't stick her nose in their business. She wondered shortly about what these three were like. They seemed pretty shy, which she could deal with. She never was picky when it came to making friends.

"Um...I'm...Mockingbird," the girl chirped nervously.
She waved her hand and glanced at Crystal. She seemed nice. The girl swallowed, and suddenly thought, "Dang...I feel like an ant."
Mockingbird felt self-concious. They were all taller than she was! She felt very small among them. She allowed her eyes to wander about the group. She looked over Crystal and Jolt, but stopped when her gaze reached Shockwave.
Her brown eyes found the bruise that was starting to form on Shockwave's face. She swallowed and subconciously touched the scar on the side of her neck. It was hidden behind her hair, but it was still there...along with the other one. Bruises came and gone, scars were pretty much forever. She blinked, her eyes fixed on him.
"Are...are...are you all right?" Mockingbird asked tentatively.
Her big brown eyes were set on him. Hopefully, she didn't remind him TOO much of a kicked puppy. She didn't need anyone prying into her private history. Or her history PERIOD. She was nevous as all hell being around them, but something about them made her comforted. Maybe it was the fact they came to help her at all.
No one came to her rescue when he would hit her. But they came now! Mockingbird tried to avoid meeting his eyes when she cooed softly, "Thank you for coming to help me."

Jolt grinned and attempted to put an arm around Mockingbird.
"So... You wanna get some pizza?"
"Food and girls. That's all he thinks about. But I guess we can dwindle about for a while; the Light shouldn't mind that much." Shockwave smiled. Looking at Mockingbird he realized that maybe he wasn't the only nervous person there. He took a moment to look back at Crystal; he knew that the boss would want her and Mockingbird as new recruits so he decided that he might as well give up and try to socialize for once. "So, how long have you two been heroines? I can't assume long for you", he stated looking at Mockingbird "you're pretty young looking." He also gave his brother a look of 'and she's too young for you'.
Jolt frowned and then moved to try and put an arm around Crystal's waist giving back a look that said
'FINE! Dibs on this one!'.

Crystal looked between Shockwave and Mockingbird. A smirk grew on her face. She didn't speak up on her thoughts, yet instead she waved back at Mockingbird. The girl was short, yet had a certain beauty to her. Her eyes were popping, in Crystal's opinion anyways.
It felt rather foreign talking to people. Nobody bothered to say hello to her in the past few months. Staying away from society played a huge role in her not having communication, though. Being a run away tends to kill a person's social life. In Crystal's case it did. She continued to stare at Mockingbird and Shockwave until she figured she was being a tad bit annoying. She brought her attention to Jolt.
"You know, your brother seems to have you on a leash," She joked, trying to make an attempt at making things less quiet. She really was dreading when they would all leave and she'd be alone again. She didn't even recognize her voice anymore because she hasn't spoken in for what seemed like years. She slowly moved away from Jolt.
She answered Shockwave's question with,"Not long enough to have full control over my powers..." She looked away, not wanting to think about it.

"D-Does not!", Jolt stuttered towards Crystal "I just LET him be a stickler. Just like how I think you having bad power control is fine. I'm cool like that." Shockwave overheard this and smiled. "Alright, so my brother and I have to deliever a very important scientific project downtown, but we still have a few hours left until we do." Jolt grinned in his usual cheery fashion; though to be honest, he didn't really want to go on the mission the Light had assigned them. He was starting to suspect that perhaps their boss wasn't so anti-evil as they would have thought.
"I guess getting to know each other can't hurt. I bet you girls are hungry, how about the two of us treat you to something?" Shockwave said softly as he hesitantly took off his goggles. Jolt nudged him teasingly in the ribs, mouthing something inaudible and probably perverted. Blushing furiously, Shockwave told his brother to silence himself. Walking out of the alleyway the boys noticed a few strangers staring at them; a few even took photos.
"Oh right, we're wearing bright blue spandex."

"You don't understand," Crystal mumbled under her breath, becoming slightly down cast. She wasn't sure if she should take what Jolt said about her lack of control being okay as something comforting or just words he said to make her feel better. Regardless, she wasn't the type to stay in a negative mood for long, so she decided to go with the topic of food. The past could stay in the past.
"I can't speak for her," Crystal spoke as she pointed to Mockingbird, "But I for one can go for food any time of the day. If eating could be considered a hobby, it'd be my favorite."
She didn't seem to take note of the people watching them until the flash of a camera blinded her. She took off her mask, her bangs falling into her dark blue eyes. Taking off the mask really didn't help make her look any more casual considering she was wearing chain mesh, but she figured it helped. Not much, but now the air hit her face in a rather refreshing way.
She was still curious about their mission, but playing twenty questions about it more likely than not would be bothersome. She yet again didn't bring it up. Maybe if she was lucky the two boys would fill herself and Mockingbird in on whatever it was they had to do. She didn't know why she was so concerned about it, she barely knew any of these people.

Mockingbird made a noise short of a growl. She opted to follow them. Maybe it would be nice to have company....but first she better set that one boy straight.
"I'm fourteen," Mockingbird said to Shockwave. "I've been stopping small crime since I was about ten. Nothing like that's ever happened before though."
She looked down at her feet. It was probably because of what they did to her. That's probably why she was short. She felt her brown eyes burn with tears, but she blinked them away. Or at least she attempted to blink them away. Her throat burned and she felt it close up. "God....DO NOT BREAK DOWN!"
The brunette tried to put a smile on her face, but it was a worn and faded one. She looked at Crystal and said, "It may be considered a hobby, just not a very healthy one."
The girl's hands tightened over her mask. Should she take it off? "No. Yes. No. Yes. No. JUST TAKE IT OFF! They'll probably just assume you got it in a fight." She peeled the mask off her face and placed in into a pocket. She hung her head until she passed the cameras. Mockingbird sighed and looked up.
There was a scar on her cheek bone, and another on her jaw. They were both on the left side of her face. You could tell she was scared now. She felt exposed....and what if they asked her where they'd come from?

Before Crystal fully got past the crowd of people that might as well be savages by the way they were gawking at them, she turned around and faced them.
"Okay, I'm pretty camera friendly, but jeez people. It's called letting people be, maybe you all should learn how to do that. Trust me when I say it's for the the best," she tried to advise. She was more than sure they wouldn't listen, but it was worth a try.
A man from the group decided to go against her advise and took a another picture. Crystal rolled her eyes, trying not to get agitated as she went to catch up with Mockingbird.
"People these days. They see a few teenagers in costumes and all of a sudden they go nuts. I don't understand people. Do you, Mockingbird?"Crystal asked the shorter girl, looking at her with an absent mind.
The girl seemed timid currently for lack of better word. Crystal took a guess and thought it was because she didn't warm up to people very easily. That could have been the case, but looking at the younger girl longer, she noticed scars painting her face. It must have been a difficult decision to take her mask off. She didn't have to be a mind reader to figure that one out.
She did what she always did when she was in a situation like this, which was babbling.
"Oh, and I guess you're right about the food thing. That's why I'm glad I'm on the move a lot. I'd be three hundred pounds by now, nibbling on a Twinkie right now if I wasn't. Do you like Twinkies? They are pretty good, in my opinion," She talked on to Mockingbird, mentally telling herself that she probably should shut up. She highly doubted the girl was interested in talking about food products at a time like this.
