" I'm giving up; I'm giving up s l o w l y I'm blending in so you don't even k n o w me. Apart from this whole w o r l d that shares my fate. " - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [/b]ichard felt a cold shiver lay waste to his spine and knew at once Bruce was there. Stopping dead smack in between the steps and the metal cot, Richie straightened his shoulders and took a sharp, silent breath. He'd knew this had been coming. Bats hadn't been home for the duration of his injuries, and apart from the scrap of strange technology he'd found at the warehouse, he was completely empty handed, doped up and hurt. Well, he had put off thinking about this moment for long enough. As Bats freaked Wally and ruined the only friend time he managed to get, with his normally busy hero-clad peers, Robin watched him through smoky glasses and waited for him to storm to the computer, not flinching as he swept passed him in a fury. There was a reason Bats was so hard on him. Too much danger - too much room for mistake. Without discipline, Bruce knew those things were true. He'd seen other Robins turn on him, be killed, be swept away from him... too many times. The harder he was on Richard, the less he figured the boy would be in danger. And Richard wasn't about to complain about his lack of social life with two of his best friends in close facilities... because he'd rather not see Batman scare them anymore. Robin knew the drill and was used to it - they weren't, and probably never would be. Richard turned to face the Bats with his hands shoved into his pockets. "The mission was a set up," he began, "the family had told us about vanishing teenagers, and a company taking in kids not even related to computers to work on advanced technology. But someone must've got wind of them calling for help because by the time we got there everything and everyone was gone. Even the scanners had been ripped out of the walls. The only thing I could find was a sample of the strange technology they seemed to be using, and a room full of ninjas trained to beat me to smithereens. Every move, every motion I made, was countered perfectly - I can't explain my failure, but I know why they over-powered me." He said blatantly, and shook his head. "I managed to patch myself up in the hotel after I dispatched the family, but my painkillers were too strong, and I couldn't ride my bike back here. So I sent a distress call to Kid Flash and he came the next morning to help me home." Standing so straight was making his ribs ache, but he ignored them. He'd rather get Wally and Supes out of here before he got lashed. "My team mates wanted to visit me." His tone stayed strong, and bland, making sure no hint of emotion touched his words. "I wanted to make their visit pleasant passed the Batcave... but I see that was a mistake." He finished and went quiet, keeping his gaze level with the back of the Bat's head. No weakness. The bare, simple truth; it was easier that way. There were other ways for Bat to get the truth anyways... passed torture and research. So it was useless to try and lie. And besides, Richard had no reason to lie. He always made sure that was the case - no excuses, no lies, quick and painless reports as well as punishments. For a moment Richard wondered what the pain of push-ups with broken ribs felt like. The dark clad hero said nothing more to Superboy and Kid Flash. His point had been made, and he expected that they would be on their best behaviors. Few rarely weren't after such a tongue lashing from The Dark Knight himself. Robin, on the other hand, warranted his full attention, and undivided wrath. He had taught him far better than this, but he knew he was coming into a stage in his life in which he would be constantly testing his limits. This could not be allowed. There would be training later tonight. "Yes," he growled, finishing what ever he was doing on the computer before him. "It was a mistake." He whirled across the room, scalloped cape sweeping out behind him like a creature of it's own, or the wings of a great bat. "One I expect you not to repeat." His icy voice spoke grounds on what would happen if he did. Gloved fingers flew, typing away at yet another console, entering commands and codes, and then he spun again to open a small device that looked almost like a CD drive, save for a small drawer instead of a simple slot. "Give me the samples," he ordered gruffly, turning those eerie eyes on Robin again. The fact that he hadn't sent the two other heroes out yet silently said that, for now, they could remain. However, it most likely wasn't wise to test the already irritated Bat's patience-- most of which was being saved for his protegee at the moment. One had to pity Robin after those two were gone, and it was just he and his mentor. It wasn't going to be pretty.

Connor watched nervously as the Bat stalked around the room. It was always slightly unsettling, how the tall man moved. He dropped his eyes to the floor after a while, quietly kicking at the floor and dragging the soles of his boots along the metal. It was a nervous habit of his, much like one of Clark Kent's. He so resembled Superman's human identity, right now. He was meek, quiet, and withdrawn, which was the best way to be when dealing with an angry Batman.
He looked over to Kid Flash at least, wondering how the other teen was taking this. He was more emotional, and Connor hoped to god that he didn't eventually lash out to protect his friend. While he too was uncomfortable watching Robin get scolded, he knew it wasn't his place to judge that. He knew that Batman would certainly find it unwarranted.
[[ooc; Sorry for the short replies, guys. @_@; kinda talk-blocked atm.]]

Wally winced slightly as the Dark knight turned his attention Robin. He wanted to help his teammate, but as stupid as Wally might seem from time to time, he knew when not to open his mouth. Most of the time he knew anyway, and this was one of them. Instead he lifted his head slightly, moving his eyes from his feet to cast a glance at Superboy, hoping to catch the Super's attention. Wally had sympathy for the other, not that he pitied Connor, the guy was great and there was no reason to, but more that he wanted the other to know that he didn't agree with Batman's.. Insecurities, in lack of better word, concerning what the Bat only saw as Superman's clone. Or, at least Wally didn't think Batman had accepted the fact that Connor was indeed more than just a clone. He threw in a small, very small, assuring smile with that glance, just to make sure his message got through to the Kryptonian.
And as for Robin; Oh boy. Wally had a feeling that Superboy and himself would be dismissed soon, leaving Robin alone for Batman to lecture/punish/train/what ever the Bat did when Robin made a mistake. And Wally felt bad because he knew he was going to be forced to leave his bro. He hated it. Robin wasn't the only one at fault here. Wally had stormed around when he shouldn't, hadn't thought twice about coming to the cave, and he should have. If Robin was going to be punished, so was Wally. They were a Team after all.

" I'm giving up; I'm giving up s l o w l y I'm blending in so you don't even k n o w me. Apart from this whole w o r l d that shares my fate. " - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [/b]ichard tightened his jaw as the Bat turned icy eyes on him. "Yessir," he replied stonily. Simple, short. Barely a hint of resentment. He was getting worse and worse about keeping the disdain out of his voice. There was so much he didn't get to do, and so much he missed out on because he was a hero, and when he finally gets peers, hero peers, on his level... he still has to reign in all his long-kept secrets. Still live isolated, barely leaving for school let alone to attend any kind of social events. At school they joked about him being recluse genius concocting different ways to take over the world from his dark basement. As Richard glanced about, he figured that was more Bruce's thing - lurking in the cave and plotting how to stop idiots trying to take over the world. But mostly they just thought he was an anti-social after 2:20 pm, despite his large and rapidly growing circle of friends. Bottom line, he was a popular guy because of a few factors working with him, but he had to turn down a dozen queries a day during classes asking him to come to a party, a football game or a gathering at the mall. He was growing up within the walls of the mansion instead of out in the world like everybody else got to. To a thirteen-year-old thinking, that gave him perfect freakin' grounds to bend a few rules. He was steadily losing his ability to suck it up and act like he liked being all dark and mysterious like Bruce, too - he was a kid, and he was sick of being forced to be an adult. When the Bat asked him for the sample, he produced it from his pocket in a sealed plastic bag and handed it to the man, eyes on the bag, the hand, then his chucks. The sample was a broken off piece of a computer - a bit of the processor jostled loose. Probably from a model they'd injured severely in their haste to get out of town before Richard arrived. It wasn't much, but it was definitely strange technology that even the computer nerd couldn't identify. That was another reason Richard was irritated. He was the master of technology, and that hunk of metal was completely foreign to him. How useful was he if he couldn't even place a processor? Bruce should foresee weeks of sulking after his punishment was through... if it was over before the end of the week. Batman accepted the piece of technology with icy silence before turning his attentions back to the computer in front of him. He slipped the piece into the drawer like slot and shut it, then activated a program that would continuously shift until it found a match to the piece. That was, if it did at all. The Dark Knight had been on many outings involving advanced, and sometimes twisted technology, but this technology was foreign to him too. It might warrant some looking into himself-- Robin had obviously failed in his task. Of course, that wasn't exactly why Bruce was angry-- things in this bossiness were unpredictable, after all. You won some, you lost some. How Richard could be so stupid as to not alert him to his were-abouts, and even worse, to have such stupid pride as to not call for back-up-- He could have been killed! Robin was his side-kick, his protegee, as it were, yes, but he was also more to Bruce-- he was like a son. He couldn't bear to lose another one. Not again. "Someone will be here soon to take your friends home," he told Robin icily, of course, meaning Alfred, who would be safely concealed behind a tinted glass separator. Not that he thought the children were any threat themselves, necessarily, though there was always the possibility-- more-so he didn't trust them to keep a secret-- more the loud-mouthed one than Superboy. Very few had the privilege of knowing where the cave was, though Superboy's predecessor was among them. Perhaps one day... Today was not that day though. "In the meanwhile, take a seat," he ordered the two. If they were sitting they weren't wandering his cave getting up to who knew what. There was, a long, long 'talk' in store for Robin when this was all done with...

Connor let out a small sigh through his nose and looked back to the ground after he was ordered. He quietly walked over to a chair and sat. He knew Robin was in deep trouble. He knew that Robin would most likely be punished harshly for his mistakes. What he didn't know is if the boy really deserved whatever punishment he was going to get. He didn't understand why he, himself, was following Batman's orders so sheepishly.
Perhaps it was his intimidating nature? No. He had fought against people much tougher then Batman. Was it out of respect? No. Connor respected Superman, and yet he didn't bother with respect, since he never got any back. Was it out of gratitude? Ah, there we go. Batman was one of the few adults who had actually managed to give two craps about him. He offered him shelter, a team, a purpose. He hated being a nice guy in return for that.

" I'm giving up; I'm giving up s l o w l y I'm blending in so you don't even k n o w me. Apart from this whole w o r l d that shares my fate. " - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [/b]ichard felt very young and very humiliated, standing here being iced over by his guardian - probably the only major hero who didn't trust the sidekicks together - while his two best friends watched on. Bruce was probably going to give him a level nine burning workout, possibly a ten; on a scale of one to ten, that was very screwed. There was difficult, hard, damn, kinda screwed, screwed, very screwed, and effing screwed. Though there was the possibility of him making up a new level of difficulty. A beep sounded in the silence; Richard reached into his pocket and took out his arm computer, slipping it on and bringing the screen to life. A frown deepened his features. "Weird," he murmured, keying in a formula to track the trajectory of the signal he was receiving, "my computer says I have another solo mission." He looked up at Bruce in concern. "My three consecutive missions all came from this same signal. It looks like its almost identical to our hideout, so I mistook it for a signal from you, Batman." He quickly went to work dissecting the signal, tearing apart its basics and trying to pinpoint its location. He tsked. The damn thing was bouncing from all sorts of countries. All the major continents, even a few minor ones, like Lithuania, were bouncing off each other like it originated separately from a million locations, or the signal itself was scrambled before it left its original device. A scowl worked its way onto his features. "I can't track it, but it seems to be feeding off information in the League's data banks." Makes sense. Like an immediate response; if it came into the League on his level of expertise, it was automatically linked to his computer to alert him of a new mission. Without one of the Justice League members directly involved. In other words, a computer he could not find had sent him running in circles for a week, as well as alerted the enemies he was supposed to be up against to his whereabouts when he replied that he had accepted the mission. Gone before he got there; missions failed before they were even begun. "Give it to me," the Dark Knight demanded, holding out his hand. Those whited out eyes slowly narrowed, and the gears could almost be seen turning behind that dark mask. Who had the skills to hack a League Mainframe? He had helped design them himself, along with J'ohn and a few others. That was very advanced technology, if it was even the device itself that was being high-jacked. There were multiple possibilities, all concerning in the least. Who ever it was, they were nothing to take lightly. And if Robin's was getting false signals--- "Both of you," he growled, whirling to face Kid Flash and Superboy. "Give me your com-links." He would have to alert the League as soon as possible, and through a secure signal if not in person. Even his own com-link could be infected, or worse, if they were hijacking the signal-- who knew what information they had already gotten? J'ohn was elsewhere at the moment, otherwise he could resort to simple telepathic communication, as much as he disliked it. The Manhunter was trustworthy-- for the most part. At the moment though, that wasn't an option. Alfred would take the two others home, and Robin would stay with him. He wanted to keep as much of an eye as he could on them all though-- just in case. "You two are to return to your base," he said, turning that stoney gaze on Wally and Superboy again. "And you are not to leave until one of us says otherwise." Us, of course, meaning one of the League. They were in a quarantine, of sorts now. Batman wasn't going to take any risks of one of them being attacked. The last thing they needed right now was a hostage situation-- and if these mysterious hackers could send signals, it was certainly possible that they could track them too, which meant that an ambush situation was very possible. He would have to send someone over to scan their computers and security systems as well. He was already setting to work scanning his own. "Am I understood?" His tone left no room for questioning.

Connor sat up a little more straight when Batman looked at him and Wally, demanding their com-links. Remaining quiet, but outwardly apprehensive, He slowly pulled the com-link out of his jacket pocket and handed it over. He waited, and listened to Batman's orders. Stay at the base? What if someone needed help? If there was one thing Connor hated, it was being cooped up. He frowned a bit, then finally spoke.
"I appreciate the help and all, Batman, I really do." He stuck his hands in his pockets, some of the sheepishness fading from his over all look. "But I can't just stay cooped up because of all this. I have super hearing, so I hear when people call me all over. I'll stay off the com-links, and away from tech, but I have to answer those calls, at least." It was somewhat an implanted mental imperative. He was mentally conditioned to be Superman, and Superman helped everyone. It was a compulsion, and when he didn't answer it, his mind almost seemed to punish his body by making him nauseous, giving him a headache, or giving him restless nights.

"Wait, What?!" Wally's head snapped to the Batman as a hand was extended towards the red and yellow clad speedster, "how will you contact us then?" Wally reluctantly pulled out his com-link, looking at it, slightly weighing it in his hand. He had carried it for so long, it having become one of the things he never left the house without, right there among his iPod, his phone and the Kid Flash suit.
And that was the minor problem. Wally didn't have super hearing like Connor, he couldn't hear the cries for help, the only thing he could, was run towards the trouble as soon as he got the message on his com-link. Kid Flash needed it in order to help people. "I don't like this. We need to help people. How do we do that without the com-links?" Even as he said this, Wally handed the Dark knight the device, fingers lingering slightly at the smooth surface before pulling back.

" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [/b]ichard obeyed, placing his computer in the hand of the Bat. He felt strangely toyed with. Like a train shooting down a set course, cursed to fail. Even though he got the missions, he'd been lead from place to place seeing strange things, but never accomplishing a mission. It was as if the perpetrator wanted to either kill his morale( which had kind of worked, seeing the tension between the boy and the Bat at present ), or they wanted him to see a pattern. Hard as Richard thought, all he saw was a bunch of empty crime scenes, and a bit of tech nothing could identify. He looked to his friends as they gave up their com links, and tried to imagine what it would be like to be able to hear the screams of people in need and be locked away from helping them. It'd definitely be heart-wrenching, at the least. Especially with Supie's physical symptoms - that had to be a hundred times worse. His ribs were starting to ache again. Ignoring them, he shifted legs, trying to keep the pain at bay as long as he could. He didn't know how much training he could take with an ache like this. One wrong twist, and he'd re-break his partially-healed ribs. Wally looked the most upset. He'd be very cut off without his well-known com-link, and even though he'd be at the base well within other sources of communication from the League, he was just as concerned as Supes about helping people without it. KF had no physical symptoms but guilt if he didn't lend a hand but he had a hero's drive for it. Batman took the coms and deposited them next to one of the massive computers that lined the cave to be worked on later. They would have to be gone through meticulously to make sure that they were completely clean. For now, he made sure that they were free of tracking chips and turned them off completely to avoid any tracing through the machines themselves. All of that would be dealt with after he handled his young protegee. "Then you can stay in the Watchtower," he answered to Superboy's comment without turning around. Batman did not debate what he commanded. He expected his orders to be followed. "We don't know what they know about you. This is the safest option for now." He understood the boy's reluctance to take a break from helping people, but he also understood that when things went wrong, they often went very wrong. It was only when Wally piped up that he turned to face them again. "You won't," he answered in a clipped tone. "The League can handle things just fine without you for a few days. However, you may go with Superboy if you'd like." Judging by their reactions to his plans that was probably safer anyway-- In the Watchtower there were older, wiser heroes around to keep an eye on them and make sure that they didn't sneak out as they had a habit of doing. At the very least they could be kept busy with some training lessons to hone their skills while they were there. "Now, unless there are any questions, your ride is waiting for you." And indeed a car had driven up the causeway leading to the cave exit-- though it wasn't the Bat-mobile. It seemed to be a simple black van, nothing special, though all the windows were darkly tinted, and nothing of the driver could be seen within. There certainly seemed to be someone within though, because someone had driven it here and the engine was running. Of course, with Batman, it was also very possible that it was automated as well. "Robin," he continued darkly, "Go get properly bandaged up. Come back here when you're done." His tone was nothing if not ominous.

Superboy froze in place, eyes widening noticeably. Soon, a big smile crossed his face. "T-THe Watchtower? You mean it?" He gained quite a bit of brightness to his mood when he even thought of being able to see the inside of the famous Watchtower, the main HQ of the Justice League. And maybe while there, he'd finally be able to know what it was like for all the other heroes, the ones he had never met, the ones he had only dreamed of meeting, but then he remembered the main reason.
He couldn't hear pleas for help in a vacuum. He furrowed his brow, sinking slightly in thought. Was it a worthy trade off? No, it was selfish for him to have even thought about himself before others. Was it something he had to do? Yes, Batman certainly seemed like he meant for these orders to be followed. "So... how do I get up there, then?"
